Checa, Honda fourth at French World Superbike

Despite setting a new lap record in race one, HANNspree Ten Kate Honda CBR1000RR rider Carlos Checa ended the Magny-Cours weekend with a seventh- and a fourth-place finish in the penultimate 2008 World Superbike championship event. Checa now runs fifth in the season’s championship standings.

American and long-time Honda rider Josh Hayes had a brilliant showing in Portugal at the last World Supersport race of the season this weekend. While Hayes spent most of 2008 riding a pair of Honda CBR600RRs for Erion Racing in the AMA’s 600 Supersport and Formula Xtreme series, as the AMA season wound down he’s been looking for new challenges in the World Supersport arena.

In his rookie season riding a Honda CBR1000RR World Superbike, seasoned MotoGP veteran Carlos Checa has made a terrific showing. Biggest of all has to be his double wins at Miller Motorsports Park earlier this year. But number two has to be in Race One of the season’s last event in Portugal.
